> Motorcycle Accidents
Motorcycles are an inherently dangerous means of
transportation taking on average the lives of over three thousand
people annually. In fact, the number of deaths from
motorcycle accidents is twenty six times that of automobile
accidents when the two are compared on a per mile basis. This
is attributed to the lack of protection, visibility, and stability
offered by a motorcycle.
There are five types of accidents that account for the large
majority of all motorcycle-related fatalities. Almost half
of all fatal motorcycle wrecks involve the motorcycle running
off the road. About one in five motorcycle accident deaths
occur from either the motorcycle or another vehicle running
some form of traffic control. Head on collisions account for
approximately one in ten motorcycle accident deaths, and just
less than one in ten of these wrongful deaths are caused by
an automobile making a turn in front of a motorcycle. The
fifth most common type of fatal motorcycle accident is when
the motorcycle goes down in the road.
Whenever a motorcycle is involved in an accident, the operator
is almost always thrown from the bike exposing them to a myriad
of injuries. The most common fatal motorcycle accident injury
involved in motorcycle wrecks is a head injury.
