Defective Products > Airbag Injury
Airbags were first introduced to Automobiles to reduce injury
during auto accidents in the early 80’s. In theory,
an air bag creates a pillow type effect between the vehicle
occupant and the hard surfaces of a vehicle during an auto
accident. An airbag is not meant to be used alone, but in
conjunction with a seatbelt. Airbags became a required component
of vehicles sold in the United States in 1999 and have reduced
wrongful deaths in frontal crashes by an estimated 30 percent.
An airbag has three main components: An accident sensor,
the airbag inflator and the airbag itself. However, this system
is not failsafe. There have been defective airbag lawsuits
and defective airbag claims filed claiming the failure of
one or numerous components airbag system. Personal injuries
sustained from airbag injuries range from soft tissue injuries,
blindness and even wrongful deaths.
